Upper Canada's First Paper Mill 1826

The City of Hamilton
In Flamborough, at the bridge over the creek beside the old mill on the north side of Crooks Hollow Road. From the intersection of Highways 8 and 5 (Peter's Corners) follow Highway 8 east to West Flamborough then left onto Crooks Hollow Road.

Summary from the Ontario Heritage Foundation's website
Two economic factors encouraged James Crooks to construct a paper mill on Spencer Creek: the growing domestic market and the high tariff imposed on imported paper. The mill operated under various owners until it was destroyed by fire in 1875.
